Whatever You Want To Be, Just Be That.

The concept of stepping into a new identity doesn’t have to be hard or intimidating. There’s a process, of course, but it’s actually easier than you think. The first step is allowing yourself to put down the pain and burdens of your past self. Let go of whatever injury you’ve been holding onto. You were hurt, ignored, or didn’t get the love or appreciation you wanted. That might be true, but that story belongs to someone else. It’s the plot line of the old you, not the person you want to be.

Create a vision for yourself. See yourself as this new person—from the way your hair is styled, to your attire, to your attitude and energy. Hold this version of yourself in your mind’s eye and sink into that feeling.

To become someone new, you have to retire the other versions of yourself, especially the old ones whose stories don’t align with your current vision. You don’t have to tell the story of how you got here in a negative way. Bad things happened, but good things did too. You’ve accomplished much more than you give yourself credit for, and what’s more, you own every story about who you are that can ever be told.

So, start with the best parts.

  • Start with what you excel at.
  • Start with your accomplishments.
  • Start with the version that impresses you the most.

Speak into reality the identity that best resonates with you now—the version of yourself that has everything you want and has always gotten what you’ve wanted. Get excited about the person you get to be every day.

The one who has the best friends, the most money, the coolest wardrobe, the most beautiful home, and the healthiest love. Paint a picture that you want to be true. Let go of the story where you didn’t get what you needed. Forget the times when you were wronged. Put down the heavy burden of the past where you felt less than the powerful person you are today.

Here’s the secret: Anything that makes you feel bad when you think about it—don’t tell the story that way. How we feel boils down to the story we’re telling. It all comes down to the version that makes you feel good or bad to talk about. If it makes you feel bad, don’t talk about it.

Be delusional.

Ignore reality if it’s painful. Embrace the reality that makes you feel the best about who you are, what you’re living, and what you have to offer. If it’s delusional, so be it.
